Emotion Mats
An invitation to understand how we feel
Big feelings are easier to talk about when they have a face to go with them. The Emotions Mat is an open-ended printable designed to help little ones recognise, name and express their emotions through hands-on, playful exploration.
Print, cut and laminate each emotion card for a durable, reusable reference set, then bring the mat to life with loose parts — buttons, sticks, stones or pom-poms — to build each expression, or roll and shape playdough into eyebrows, eyes and mouths to match. There's no single right way to play: children can create, compare and talk through feelings at their own pace, building emotional vocabulary and self-awareness along the way.
This resource also connects to activities inside the Joyora app, so the learning doesn't stop at the printed page.
What's included:
Emotions Mats
Emotion reference cards, ready to laminate
Why we love it: it grows with your child — a toddler might simply point and name, while an older child can build, compare, and talk through what each feeling means to them.
